“A little bit of elbow grease along with some head-cocked, squinty-eyed imagination can see any dime-a-dozen piece transformed into something that looks a million bucks….And anyone can do it!” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Kristine from the painted hive transformed a basic melamine storage unit into chalkboard faux specimen drawers.
Kristine used custom cuts of timber to create a paneled effect on the drawers fronts. A chalkboard paint finish creates a striking, graphite-like finish and the castor wheels add an industrial touch to the piece. While the specimen drawers are true eye candy, Kristine notes that they aren’t always practical for folks who need functional storage space. Her inspired idea to create a facade for the existing drawers fronts makes this project a standout. Learn more about how she created these chalkboard faux specimen drawers at the painted hive blog.
